AI is already making decisions at work. The question is which ones stay human, and Dr. Paula Goldman has done the research.

Presented by SRI and Northeastern University in Silicon Valley on October 13, 2026 in Palo Alto, CA. Manage the Machine: An Evening with Paula Goldman, Chief Ethical and Humane Use Officer at Salesforce. In conversation with Caroline Simard, dean of Northeastern in Silicon Valley.

Book Discussion and Networking Reception

Join us for a timely conversation with Paula Goldman, Chief Ethical and Humane Use Officer at Salesforce, on her new book, Manage the Machine: How to Harness Human-AI Collaboration at Work.

The originator of her function at Salesforce and a trained anthropologist, Dr. Goldman was the first person that her friends and business contacts started calling when they started worrying about how AI would affect their industries and workplaces. Fielding this upsurge in questions led her to dig deeper into the question of how AI is being implemented around the world, across business functions, and in every industry.

She has laid out her findings in a practical playbook for responsibly integrating AI across every function of an enterprise. The book moves through diverse case studies—from a small town council in England where employees rejected AI tools despite their benefits, to a bank in Singapore that got automation right by preparing its workforce ahead of time—drawing out what separates AI rollouts that build trust and get great results from those that do not.

Across functions including sales, customer service, marketing, people management, hiring, legal, and product innovation, Dr. Goldman makes the case that keeping people at the center of the transformation is the key to success.

Our conversation host is Caroline Simard, dean of Northeastern in Silicon Valley and social scientist with decades of experience examining the mechanics of the tech industry. Dr. Simard has published influential research on career pathways, inclusion, and organizational change in STEM fields.

This event is for anyone whose work AI is already touching, which by now is most people: executives and early-career professionals, engineers and designers, sales, compliance, and HR, corporate teams and startup founders alike.

Guests will receive a copy of Dr. Goldman’s book.
